You’re Just Ruining It For Yourself
We all love to pack the kitchen sink when we camp, but those so-called essentials only bog us down. Though it’s tempting to grab the whole underwear drawer, we’ve narrowed down a few things you can—and should—leave at home.
1. Valuables
We’re not talking about your precious e-reader or your cellphone. No, we’re talking about the truly unnecessary items, like jewelry or that designer purse. First of all, you risk them getting lost, which is the last thing you want. Secondly, you could easily find yourself the target of sticky fingers.
2. Scented Items
We all love a good spritz of perfume, but those scented items do more harm than good in the wild. Not only do some scents attract animals, but they also disrupt other campgoers. Trust us, all you need is a campfire and the open woods to get an authentic experience.
3. Disposable Packaging
There’s a reason so many campgrounds abide by the “leave no trace” rule! It’s important that you pick up after yourself and don’t make a mess for the next person. Unless, of course, you want bears visiting in your tent.
4. Too Many Clothes
As we mentioned, too many clothes are simply a burden. Take note of how many days you’ll camp and bring an appropriate amount with you. It’s one thing to have a spare set of undies, but it’s another to bring ten safety pairs.
5. Nuts
Some campgrounds flat-out forbid this beloved snack on account of potential allergies. If you’re going to indulge, snack in the car and leave all your packaging inside. Though it’s best just to avoid them altogether.
